Road trip!

July 16th-18th: Kula Lumpur, Malaysia

I had the weekend off and Dirk didn't feel the need to add anymore hours to his already 60 hour work week, so we headed north in the Ford Mondeo to Malaysia. It felt like we were just heading to Dallas from Houston, four hour drive with great highways and cars actually driving fast (in Singapore they drive about 55 mph). Well, it felt like driving in Texas until you saw the occasional monkey on the side of the road or the vast plantations of palm trees. Sime Darby is one of the plantations and I had to google it to see what they actually did with all those miles an miles of palm trees. They apparently use them for oil palm cultivation? who knew?

So we arrived in KL around 9PM checked into our hotel and promptly ordered room service and fell asleep. Are we getting old or what? The next day was filled with monorails, coffee, shopping (with success too, Dirk found some shoes, THAT FIT!), and later that night a nice dinner and drinks. The coffee was for me, multiple stops, I have been trying to recover from my perforated ear drum and mycoplasma. From my understanding, mycoplasma is much like walking pneumonia. It was a mild case but it makes you really really tired, it is almost inevitable for expats not to get it at least once while overseas.

We had a nice relaxing date weekend overall. After my $70 bottle of wine, I was quite pleased with the weekend. Phil, our friend from college, was suppose to road trip with us but got called to Australia for a quick assignment for work. He will come with us to Chaing Mai, Thailand next month! Can't wait, white water rafting and elephants!

Could be a Texas road?? We sure were blaring the Pat Green & Randy Rogers.

The malls were much like Singapore's HUGE and very nice.

The famous Petronas Towers

I love me some coffee bean, oh and him too!

It seems like every Asia country has such good public transport.

Looking tired but still smiling!
DIRK FOUND SHOES, this is really monumental!

View from our hotel

Happy after my bottle of wine at dinner, that is a treat, in Singapore it would have been triple that!

Bukit Bintang was the area to be in.

And yes, Durian is back in season... the streets won't smell the same for weeks!
We have a stand right outside our condo, YUCK! This stuff smells so bad that it is banned in all public transportation, malls, restaurants... but people love it?
